It hurts a lot less today. I'll look around for some peroxide, but I know I have an echinacea tincture. I've been using my mouthwash a lot throughout the day, and been spraying a breath spray (Herb Pharm Breath Tonic, just pure organic peppermint, cinnamon, ginger, and clove essential oils... mmm) on that spot, and that helps a lot too to numb the pain and make it feel better. Also been drinking a lot of echinacea tea, and did a couple salt water gargles with reishi mushroom tincture. It all seems to be helping a lot, if not prolonging my trip to the dentist.

Vancouver is a few hours from where I am. I'm pretty much at the northern tip of the Sunshine Coast, so with ferry rides and gas money and everything, Vancouver would be a VERY expensive trip. I'll see what I can find in the way of dentists in town....

Hi Lyra...i work in dentistry..you can help the pain by putting whatever you wish on it however like it was mentioned before..if it is impacted (which seems to be the case) you need to get it removed...the gums being swollen cause more "stuff" to get stuck there including more bacteria increasing the risk of infection...my advice for you for now is to rinse with peroxide (you can mix a little mouthwash for taste) three times a day...this helps lift whatever bacteria or stuck food particles out of there...make sure you do this thoroughly...and get to a dentist ASAP...i know it can be costly but this doesn't get better usually...as for the top, you probably had more room up there for a wisdom tooth and upper teeth in general are just easier.

good luck,

Wisdom teeth suck. I had all four removed forcibly due to impaction. They caused pain throughout my entire mouth, though. If it's not the wisdom tooth, it could be something abcessing. If at all possible, have it checked out. Not to worry you needlessly, but I had a painful swelling around on of my lower jaw teeth (about midway back). At first I thought it was abcessed, and so did the dentist, but it turned out to be a tumor originating from the bone forming cells in my jaw. It was benign, but it scared the heck out of me. I had to have it cut out and biopsied. Although it was benign, it has a chance of recurring, so I have to be vigilant about it. Again, I don't want to worry you needlessly-mine was a fairly uncommon condition-but it could be alot of things. Clove oil definately helps with the pain, but if it's an impacted wisdom tooth or abcess you'll probably have to resort to something nonherbal eventually. Warm saline rinses and compresses are nice too.

I *think* I have a wisdom tooth coming in. Morning before last, I woke up to a pain in the furthest back space of my gums, on the left bottom. The gums are swollen, but just that one area. It hurts to chew or bite down, because it feels like the gums have elevated above my furthest back tooth. It even hurts that area if I move my tongue. I ate nearly plain polenta last night and today because I can't chew very well. At first I thought it was something stuck back there(because that's what it felt like the first few hours), like almond bits, but I picked around back there and found nothing.

Is this going to be a wisdom tooth? I have one coming in above it, but that one never hurt or got swollen coming in, it's just taking a very long time to come in all the way.

I'd love to know about something for the pain, too, if anyone has any suggestions. It's making me not want to move my head at all! Argh. I've never had something hurt this bad in my mouth before. Help!

Blessings,
