I have a co worker tha is suffering from a yeast infection, he has recently taken a lot of antibiotics after dental work, so I assume this contributed to the yeast development.
Any suggestions in treating this problem?
I have suggested unsweetened cranberry juice and active culture yougurt .
Please advise~ Thankyou~JaneFoxglove

Re: Yeast infection in Men?
Wed, May 20, 2009 - 8:17 AMActive culture yogurt is a good start, but yogurt is not the most effective way to replace beneficial endoflora. Unless you eat a LOT of yogurt on an empty stomach, your digestive system destroys most of the culture. Probiotic supplements can be a lot more effective. For most of them, acidophilus and lactobacillus cultures require enteric coating, so if your friend chooses to go that route, look for enteric coated capsules or beads. Bacillus coagulans is a very aggressive probiotic that doesn't require enteric coating (stomach acid actually causes it to release spores and reproduce) and can be very useful in treating yeast infections. Check the probiotics section at your local drug store or health food store and you'll find all of the above. -

Re: Yeast infection in Men?
Wed, May 20, 2009 - 8:59 PMwhile supplementing with additional cultures, like noted by phil, for 2-3 weeks use a strong tea or concentrate of Umeboshi Plum (Japanese smoked plums). It will help rid the body of excesses of yeast, clean the blood, clear the skin, and alkalyze the body.
adjusting body alkalinity will largely rid the body of wrong yeast balance. Adjust with probiotics, like Phil mentioned. Kombochu Tea is a good thing to learn to grow.
Triphala for regulating gut and rejuvinating is good. It may also be good to look into "po chai' (curing pills), a chinese herb supplement
colloidal silver and zinc is good to take too. trace minerals are very useful.
plenty of alkalized water (maybe just a pinch of epsom salt in a gallon of water) and/or a bit of himilayan salt. use any ph test kit, to arrive at a value just slightly above the middle @ ph5
eat lower amounts of yeasty foods in the process - like make sure the bread is fresh and organic and full of coarse grains, not the usual fair. A tablespoon or two of organic vinegar is good - (what i like, is to let a potent batch of kombochu tea go 'bad', then i have kombochu vinegar) - about 10 or 15 minutes before a meal.
needless to say, cutting down or out, sweet things, will help starve the excess yeast. For some people, Chromium and Vanadium (trace minerals) are very good in regulating yeast balances (like beer and liquor, and desserts)
slowly promoting good digestion, not with complete raw foods, but lightly heated ones, will help develope a good digestive tract (raw is good for detoxing, but not in this case), with plenty of friendly bacteria to take the burden of the excess off your system.
have some fragrant seeds for tea - like anise, fennel, caraway, cardamom, dill etc, for if you build a good gut flora, you will have lots
of gas/fermentation in the process of building it, and the majority of the stress of that can be aided with the fragrant essential oils present in aromatic seeds
tepid tumeric tea/water -

Re: Yeast infection in Men?
Sun, June 21, 2009 - 7:55 PMI don't mean to pry but where is the yeast infection?
A plain salt bath for external places works well, as yeast can't survive salt solutions of a certain strength. Say 3 tea spoons of table salt mixed in a glass of water, then just dab the affected area. It might be painful, but it works. -

Re: Yeast infection in Men?
Mon, June 22, 2009 - 4:28 PMThanks for your ideas. His Yeast infection was in the urinary tract, He took the herbs and juices (and also more antibiotics a urologist perscribed)
He is doing better and now understands that the antibiotics can cause more uncomfortable digestive issues than the herbs.
I know more about his bodily functions than I ever imagined he would share!
I guess I am his resident wise-woman/yenta now.
He did come to me for a Reiki session and I felt a hernia that may also have contributed to his discomfort,, the Dr later confirmed the hernia that will need to be repaired.
Thank you all for your helpfull insights and wisdom!
