I am learning about all the benefits of this root and just how powerful it truly is. An immune system booster for sure. Although be sure to take potassium while using this supplement.

Re: licorice root
Fri, October 16, 2009 - 6:53 PMone should not take more than 1oz of licorice a week. Excellent tonic for rebuilding depleted adrenal glands. Be clear on whether you are using chinese or american. Golden Seal is a wonderful plant too, but nothing like licorice. Golden Seal is for short term use too.
bananas are good. -

Re: licorice root
Sat, October 17, 2009 - 6:29 AMYes I was reading about over dosing on it and the side effects that can occur if one does. It must be a strong herb if you can overdose on it.
A typical dose of whole licorice is 5 to 15 g daily. However, we do not recommend the use of doses this high for more than a few weeks. For long-term consumption, about 0.3 g of licorice root daily should be safe for most adults. (See Safety Issues.) Individuals who wish to take a higher dose should do so only under the supervision of a physician. -

Re: licorice root
Sat, October 17, 2009 - 7:25 AMof course the problem I am having is that I do not have a scale to measure weight so I am trying to figure out how much licorice root to take by volume. For example how many grams of licorice root are in a leveled tsp? or tbsp?

Re: licorice root
Sun, October 18, 2009 - 5:26 PMI've read it's also not to be taken by anyone dealing w hypertension. It also gave me headaches when I was drinking it in a tea daily, when I cut out the licorice root, the headaches stopped. It's an extremely powerful medicine not to be used daily but very beneficial when used when needed. Also not to be taken w dieuretics.
