mother earth does supply the medicine we need.,lifestyle is the biggest factor in health-people underestimate how much sleep we need--and all around us there are toxins in the air we breathe and water we drink and swim in.,nature holds the key--and we are very much a part of nature ,,even in our concrete

I would say that Complimentary Medicine is just that.
If the patient has some severe acute condition Western
medicine may be the way to go. If the condition is chronic
or degenerative certain CAM approaches may be more
appropriate. Acupuncture and Chinese herbs sound very
appropriate in her case as does meditation and perhaps
Qi Gong or Tai Chi Chuan. Tibetan Medicine would also do
a world of good for her, but meeting a Tibetan Doctor is not
easy in the west. I know of a few in Calif. and a few in Mass.

Depending on her spiritual orientation, there are some very
good spiritual models with great track records. You need to
be discerning-- many "new age" energy healing methods are
fanciful and don't make much difference, but others do. A
holistic Chiropractor who deals in "energy medicine" may be
the way to go; I know one in Colorado.

There are some awesome psycotherapies that can pretty much
kill just about any psychological issue in a few sessions, notably
a neo-cognative approach called 'Health Realization."

I completely agree with your concerns and I thank you very much for your input.

She is taking the process slow, which is good because I was extremely worried about her swings into deep depression, but she does have a lot of support around her.

Many blessings :)

She has a myriad of health problems; high blood pressure, arthritis, chronic pain, insomnia, and depression.

Your question of whether or not she is actually being treated correctly by the Western doctors is up for debate. My answer would be 'no' because I don't believe in Western medication period, however some might argue that it has many benefits, which is fine for those that have that perspective.

Her doctor switches her medications far too often, which proves they are making uneducated guesses at the causes of her physical pain. As far as her depression is concerned, one pill can't fix a milieu of lifestyle related factors; she isn't being treated holistically, which I think is what she needs.

Chinese medicine is an extremely good idea. To be honest, that slipped my mind.

Thank you and many blessings :)

My concerns point instantly to a rebound off of prescription medications'
Great care must be taken in kicking these things' some are extremely addictive'
Stopping brings withdrawal'
I would suggest she first seek advice on getting clean' or the deppression is going to raise it's head in a different form'
I always suggest 3-4 weeks clear of psycho smarties before attempting a healing with plant allies'
Or you could just be opening a big can of worms that shall take a very long time to sort out'

Healing energies'

Blessings

umm..... what is her diagnosis?
Depression doesn't cause chronic pain (though the opposite can certainly happen). Is she actually being treated correctly by the Western doctors in the first place?

On the other hand, Chinese medicine can be really effective at dealing with chronic conditions like those, tohugh it can take patience, which she might be out of at this point.

well done lilith's mom for leaving conventional medicine!

i volunteered at a medical marijuana collective for a number of years in
california... half our patients there suffered from chronic pain and insomnia...
they found medicating with a heavy indica for both symptoms was perfect...

as far as your mom's depression... medical marijuana does cause euphoria
but another factor here is: how deep her depression goes... below is a great
spring board for researching that medicine with the severity of her depression:

"Is medical marijuana an effective treatment for depression,
bipolar disorders, anxiety, and similar mood disorders?"

Today my Mother called me in tears.

Why?

She has made the conscious decision to stop relying on conventional medication for depression, insomnia, and chronic pain. During the conversation, she expressed to me that she is more than tired of depending on medications to help her feel emotionally and physically sound.

This is absolutely beautiful news!

However, while I do have a decent amount of information of what herbs she can supplement her medication with, I would love advice from others who I'm sure not only have more wisdom than I, but also possible experience with similar situations.

Many blessings,
