The peppermint lady returns, but now I'm thinking I have problems with gastritis. I had my gallbladder removed 20 yrs ago. I'm reading how the bile gets dumped into your small intestine and I'm wondering if that is why I have a burning in my belly button area? Wondering if my pyloric valve is damaged or not working properly. I remember the surgeon messed with my duodenal area as there were stones in it. My main complaint is the burning and sometimes it burns down my esophagus. I am ok one day and it bothers me the next. I broke down and am trying Tagamet. I also noticed when I am standing up it doesn't seem to bother me as much! I do have some fat around that area. It's not a terrible pain or burning, but annoying. Sometimes it physically moves in that area. I guess we need our gallbladder for a reason. Any herbal remedies for this? I don't have problems at night laying down.

Re: Chronic gastritis?
Fri, October 19, 2007 - 9:04 PMI had my gallbladder removed about 10 years ago...almost died from it apparently ( a gallstone perforated the 'common bile duct' connecting the gallbladder to the lower intestine, resulting in infection and *tons* of pain). Anyway, prior to the final diagnosis, I tried many different "heartburn" treatments, including a prescription for a heavy-duty antacid (Prilosec, maybe?). None of the treatments seemed to work.
Finally I got fed up with pharmaceuticals, did some research and found temporary relief with an herbal preparation of my own invention.
I mixed together 1 ounce, each, of powdered ginger root, licorice root and caraway seed. I then put this into gel-caps and took 2 whenever I started to feel a little heartburn. Within 15 minutes I was usually free of any discomfort/pain.
Granted, this will only treat the symptoms...but it may give you some relief until you can figure out, and take care of, the cause of your gastric distress. For me, it certainly worked better than any of the prescription-strength drugs and standard over-the-counter stuff. I still make up about a hundred of those capsules per year, just in case I eat something that "disagrees" with me.
Hope this helps.
Blessings,

Re: Chronic gastritis?
Fri, October 19, 2007 - 9:10 PMThanks for your input Becky and I'm sorry what you went through. Glad you found something that works for you! I just ordered some things tonight :
(1) 32 oz of Aloe Vera Juice, Stomach Formula made by Lily of the Desert
(1) 100 Capsules of Gastritix made by Nature's Way
The first item was raved about as it took the burn out for the sufferers right away. The second item is herbal. I don't really want to go to the doctor is I can find something soothing. It's not gnawing, it feels like I ate something spicy-the afterburn. I am trying to pinpoint the irritation-could stress make you produce too much acid (my mom was here 4 out of 7 days last week). I get this off and on since '87. I have been seen by the doctor many times and they never take not having a gallbladder into consideration. -
