It is definitely more about the lung inflammation than mucus build up. He has a cast iron stomach though, so anything edible or inhalabol
should work just fine as long as if edible it contains no stimulants.

freeze dried stinging nettles are a GODSEND for pollen and other respiratory allergies. also eyebright herb.

there's a great book called "Breathe Free: herbal and Nutritional therapy for the Respiratory System " with some fabulously good information. look for it through a used book site such as abbooks, com or alibris.com.

I have other herbal suggestions...write back with more details.

also the herb thyme...any of the common culinary thymes, preferably organic..brewed into strong tea are fabulous for breathing without being stimulant.

I'm super-sensitive to caffeine too. HTH

mullein, horehound, and coltsfoot all have properties that would help with lung mucous - they are demulcent, expectorant and lung tonic herbs

Any suggestions for inflamed lungs from allergies that don't include some sort of stimulant. My S.O. is really suffering. More from the lack of oxygen because of the inflamed lungs than the itchy sneezy , reaction. The draw back is he is extremely stimulant sensitive. Has anyone heard of some thing that will calm inflammation and increases oxygen flow that doesn't have some sort of stimulant in it? Even half a can of soda consumed in the late morning will keep him up all night. So I am hesitant to use anything that contains caffeine Ma Huang (sp) , ginseng etc.
