I was getting hot flashes that made me feel like my face was going to explode. They kept me awake all night, sweated a lot,. Couldn't remember things. And when I wasn't sweating, I felt like I was drying up...the usual menopause stuff.
I had tried taking 250mg black cohosh capsules, tried dong quai, tried licorice root, Nothing seemed to work.
Found FlashEase by Nature's Sunshine at a local health food store. The tablets are a timed release combination of black cohosh and dong quai. The dosage is fairly low...80 mg of cohosh extract. (Don't have the bottle with me, so not sure how much dong quai is in it.) The directions say to start out with 1/2 tablet and work up to a full tablet in the morning and at bedtime. So far, the 1/2 tablet in the morning is all I need.
The hot flashes went away after 2 days and haven't been back. I feel a lot better. Sleeping well. Memory seems to be working again...no more "teflon brain" that won't hold a thought longer than 30 seconds.
Locally, they cost about $23 for 60 tablets, but since I'm only using half a tablet once a day it's pretty cost effective.
Good stuff!

Re: Found a great menopause remedy
Fri, July 24, 2009 - 2:15 PMi highly dislike multi-level herbal marketing companies.
you could get the pharmaceutical extracts of both from mayway.com or, google it.
dong quai is really called Dang Gui
and black cohosh is called Sheng Ma
a bottle of each 5:1 extract, would be the equivilant of 500 grams each. You would get alot more effectiveness and stretch your dollar buying that way. natures sunshine so rips off its customers. i know, from selling it when i was younger.
try googleing 'chinese herbs for menopause'
this tribe has more back pages than god herself, there are back threads discussing menopause, with lots of good input. -

Re: Found a great menopause remedy
Sat, July 25, 2009 - 4:05 PMThe thing is in this case is that more is not always better. The higher dosages of both that I was taking were too much. I was getting the kind of headaches that I got years ago on synthetic hormones.
I think what works best about these is the timed release element. As for price, at half a tablet a day, one bottle of 60 will last 4 months. At $5 and some odd cents a month, I'd say that's affordable.
When you say extract, do you mean liquid? Like a tincture? I'd like more info please.
Thanks.

Re: Found a great menopause remedy
Sat, July 25, 2009 - 10:29 PMlow tempurature, recovered essential recapture of aromatic constituents, and freeze drying of prima material, resulting in a dry powder product the is 5x (or other) times stronger than same weight of raw herbs.
here is a link to dong qui (dang gui) dry extract. that will give you an idea of what i was meaning. -

Re: Found a great menopause remedy
Wed, July 29, 2009 - 10:06 AMDoes timed release mean 'enteric coated' or something? Are these capsules or tablets? Enteric coating used to contain Bisphenol A, so it's something to worry about if you're going to be on these for a while every single day.
I'm aware I might be way off base on assuming this and that your product might be in some other form. -

Re: Found a great menopause remedy
Wed, July 29, 2009 - 3:13 PMi don't understand what you mean by multi-level marketing. like noni juice? either way-- what does it matter if it actually works? If I was suffering from hot flashes I wouldn't care if I was supporting a multi-level marketing business. -

Re: Found a great menopause remedy
Wed, July 29, 2009 - 6:34 PMmulti level marketing is pyramidal in structure, and the person, the seller, is the one who does all the work, and is paid sweat shop commisions for their sales, thus the forming of pushy and aggresive sellers of high priced product, which few can afford. And you the person, make pennies on, and the company makes millions. god knows ive done it myself in my youth, but it really is very unfair proposition for everyone but the company. Thus, i have a tendency to eliminate pyramid sales talks. is someone talking out of concern or care? or are they telling you something the manual says, to encourage a sale with you? Links that tend to educate, without a product at the end, are links i encourage to go up. This is a forum to share our experience, make comparisons, glean new insite or inspiration. If someone want to just sell a product, the listings is an option that occasionally works to post your service and goods. And the more that one buys from ones local merchants, the more money stays in your community. The more money you keep in your community, does more for you.
talking about a product is not bad, promoting its sales is not encouraged. Or lets figure out what works good, and see what we can do
to find methods and recipes that we can utilize in our own homes. Having a more direct hand in making your medicine, gives a real appreciation for the medicine, and confidence in yourself. Learning slowly with prudence is good. there are many of our tribe members here that make some mighty fine medicine, learned here and shared with others. good direct energy and exchange for work done.
in fact, maybe we should have a thread on only products made by members in their homes. That directs money to our community of herbalists. watcha think? -

Re: Found a great menopause remedy
Thu, July 30, 2009 - 10:56 PMI see what you mean. I can understand why you would be suspicious that you are hearing propaganda. I saw Witchy's post as coming from a consumer's standpoint though. Witchy, do you sell this product? -

Re: Found a great menopause remedy
Fri, August 14, 2009 - 8:21 PMNot sure if you tried this - but kitchen sage (Salvia officinalis) works extremely well for hot flashes, especially if it is brewed cold, or if allowed to cool if you use heat to make it. Please, though, do whatever works! :-) -

Fri, September 4, 2009 - 1:14 PMTried it for the hot flashes..it didn't work.
Although sage does work well on nasal congestion. I put a lot of it in the foods I eat when I get a cold...sagey chicken soup is my favorite.
