It's not herbal, but I swear by Robetussin. Unless your cough is so bad that you can't sleep or something like that, stick with the expectorant only. Take the maximum dose suggested on the bottle, religiously every four hours. Make sure to drink a lot of water and get a lot of rest, you know, do the things your mother told you.
I've had bronchitus more times than I can count, and this *will* take care of it if you keep at it.

Re: broncitis
Sat, January 7, 2006 - 12:12 AMI have sinus infections that ALWAYS became lung infections (50% broncitis, 50% viral).
What my kitchen-witch-wife did last time to prevent it going lung-ward, was when the sinus infection got to my throat, she took a fine powder of 5-6 mg eccinatia on a business card, and quickly blew it evenly with a soda straw, to coat my throat.
I gagged and teared, but within 24 hours I felt better, and it never turned to broncitis.
That's preventative, as for curative, keep with the fluids & juice and good luck to you! -

Tue, January 10, 2006 - 10:00 AMI have used echinacea powder as well to stop/cure strep throat. And I find grapefruit seed extract to work wonders whenever any infection threatens.

Sat, January 7, 2006 - 4:11 PMYerba Mate Tea has always helped me. It is most commonly known for its energy but I think it is quite healing. Try Guyaki brand Yerba Mate, the owner practices fair trade, and it's direct and organic from the hands of the natives. Hope you feel better.

Re: broncitis
Sat, January 7, 2006 - 7:55 PMI have asthma and have been fighting a reoccuring cold. I had a friend tell me about Oregacyn for respiratory health. It is kind of spendy, but I felt much better when I was taking it. My chest didn't hurt nearly as much, I didn't have the unproductive hacking problems, and my breathing was much easier too. It has a Proprietary blend of 450 mg of wild high mountain oregano (P73), wild mountainous sage, and Cumin (high mountain blend). I'm not sure what the P73 is, but the pills worked great! It is all natural. My Asthma doctor still put me on other medication to see if the cold cycle can be broke, but I was impressed with the results I got from the Oregacyn.
I now follow his prescription. Take 2 capsules 3 times a day at the first hint of a cold for 1 day and 2 a day after that for a couple days to make sure you are covered. The only drawback I found to it is when you are taking it regularly and you burp you taste and smell oregano. I guess it could be a worse taste and smell. Hope this might help.

Tue, January 10, 2006 - 1:32 PMI had bout, after bout of bronchitis. The chest rattling, barking kind.
I finally found Drocera, a homeopathic remedy made from Round leaf Sundew, I used Drocera 200c, as needed for the cough. This worked like a charm. One can order it on line, or through a natural health food store or pharmacy which has access to this slightly stronger and less common remedy.
I don't get it any more, and when I travel I carry it with me, just in case.
This was an acute approach. Constitutional usually involves finding a deep acting remedy, and other health tips.

Thu, January 12, 2006 - 10:39 AMmy dad is a pharmacist, but he's big on natural and homeopathic remedies, and as a kid i used to get bronchitis. his sure-fire treatment was buckley's cough syrup, which is homeopathic, and contains no flavoring or sugar. it tastes so bad, it's kind of incredible, but it really works. i used to think that my body healed itself as quickly as possible b/c it didn't want to have to taste the medicine again... i recommend it.

Re: broncitis
Thu, January 12, 2006 - 10:48 AMMy family swears by a vitamin cocktail whenever anyone of us get sick.
The vitamin cocktail is: 1000mg of Vit. C (2000 if you're a smoker), 400 I.U.'s of Vit. E, 200 mcg's of Selenium, and 50 mg of Zinc. We take this every four to five hours with a cup of hot tea.
We also use Vicks Vapo-Rub on our chests every nite. If the congestion and chest pain is really bad do it a few times a day and place a hot washcloth on top of the vapo-rub. It helps to loosen the mucus that's stuck in there.
Drink your fluids and get lots of rest and if you're a smoker...don't do it while you're sick. :) That's one mistake I made one year...never again. LOL
Hope you feel better soon........Laura
