i almost forgot. i make silver colloid, and i use it as eye drops for a plethora of reasons, including pink eye. It does not sting, and even my doggies don't mind the eye drops. Eyebright like you mention is good. I used to make drops out of eyebright and sage tea for the eyes too.

most pinkeye (conjunctivitis) is a sef-imiting bacterial infection, you wak around crusty and a litte itchy for about two weeks and then your body gets over it.

there is also viral inkeye but that isn;t as common. same deal though; it eventually clears up but who wants to walk around with crusty eyes for two weeks?
yo get over it in a few days instead of a couple weeks: bst home remedy I know is eyebright (Eupghrasia) herb. in California, you can ony buy it powdered, because it's considered an invasive and they don;t want the seeds getting loose...not sure who started THAT absurdity, many so-called invasives can and sh9ud be farmed as medicinals. but it relaly works as a warm compress; yu make a strong infusion by pouring boiling wter over the herb in a shallow container, and when it is touch-toelrable you put a clean lightweight botton cloth, preferably one that's been laundered in non-scented detergent and rinsed quite well and maybe sun-dried, in it and lie down and place it over your eyes. clears it up in a day or two. you can also make or buy paper or cloth teabags of the stuff. if you use clean. food-grade teabags or cloths, you can drink the infusion after making your compress; it's excellent for respiratory allergies as well.

you;re waay more prone to get itm, especailyl as an adult, if there is a chemical irritant and/or you already have a cold or some other minor infection, or an allergic reaction, that's irritating your eyes.

preschoolers are rey prone to it because their hygiene is so bad. (sorry to sound judgmental, I love the bute itte dolls but their adorable litte hands are living microbe museums!) washing your hands often is the best prevention uness you are having eyeball-rubbing parties with your friends, heh.

PS:
I think it was a friend of my mother's who was once approached by a distinguished elderly gentleman (back in the 1970s) who very politely requested a bit of milk for his pinkeye. I think he even had a little teacup in his hand for her to use (in private).

I don't know about using milk from outside the family... naturally its power is in its freshness, and there are some illnesses that can be transmitted from milk into a wound/infection.

I've cured pinkeye with my own milk three times over the years!
The milk is incredibly soothing (though it may briefly sting at first)

Once when my son seemed to have an earache, I squirted some milk in that ear. He was shocked at the weird sensation, but after he calmed down from the initial surprise, he showed no sign of discomfort after that.
He was prone to diaper rash, and I found it helped to spray him down after a diaper change and let the milk dry on his skin before putting on a new diaper.

Check out this wild article from Mothering Magazine:

"Breastmilk is sterile, antibacterial, and has many healing properties. It can be used to treat a variety of ailments and can be applied topically for eye and ear infections, minor skin injuries, sore or cracked nipples, diaper rash, sore throats, and stuffy noses."

It would help me to know which type I have but I don't. is there a specific way to tell which type i might have, if so i could answer with 50% certainty : ) I believe however that breastmilk will handle both, though I don't have anything but what I experienced from last night to today to back that up. Can only say with certainty that it does handle at least one. (and handles it better & faster then meds do)

I woke up last night at about 3:30am with my right eye swollen nearly shut and weeping terribly. Yes.. I had Conjunctivitis (sp?) I was so bummed because there was lots for me to do today that I would no longer be able to do, not to mention I was pretty darn uncomfortable. My eye just felt three times the size, there was a TON of fluid build up underneath the eye and I could begin to feel my left eye starting to swell as well. . . Then I came here, and again.. I LOVE this Tribe. I searched what I could do and happened upon a post about Pink Eye that had information about Breastmilk being really really helpful. I thought this might have been a joke at first until many others chimed in with the same information.

It just so happens I'm breastfeeding. So naturally... I'm thinking, 'What the hell, right?! There's worse things I could put in my eye, this is worth a try." At which point I pump, grab a couple of steril essential oil disposable pipettes and wash my eye with breast milk. I woke up this morning looking about 4 times better then last night. So I washed again w/ what I pumped and refrigerated last night, about 2 hours later.. even better. I'm amazed! Truly amazed! And so so happy I found this info.

So I'm wondering, what else can I use breastmilk for should I find myself or children needing to go to the doctor? There's probably more remedies that it's used for. Ear infections perhaps? Cuts? Wounds? Breastmilk seems vulnerary as well as antibiotic. Please share more!!!
